Your location stays your choice

How EASE uses location

EASE uses location only when you choose a Nearby search or Check In. You can use text or city search and submit an unverified review without granting location permission.

Effective date: October 12, 2026. Last updated: October 12, 2026.

No background location tracking. EASE never tracks your location in the background. The app only asks for your location while you’re using it, and only after you choose a location-based feature.

1. Nearby search

When you submit a nearby search or choose Use my location, EASE asks your device for your current location once. The app rounds it to two decimal places (roughly one kilometer), keeps it in memory only for that search, and sends it through the EASE API to Google Places so results near you are favored. EASE does not put these coordinates in the request URL, save them to your preferences, or write them to its application database.

You can search by place name or city instead. Choosing Search anywhere clears the nearby center. If your last location is more than five minutes old, the next nearby search asks for a fresh one. Google Places results can include venues outside the favored area, and an explicit city in your query can guide the results.

2. One-time Check In

Check In is separate from nearby search. If you are signed in and choose Check In, EASE first explains why it’s asking, then requests your current location once. The app sends it to the EASE API to check how close you are to the venue you selected. Check In location is never used for search or atmosphere scoring.

Your phone may ask you to allow location while the app is in use. You can say no. Location is optional, and you can still write a review; it just won’t be marked as a Verified Visit. EASE does not request background location.

3. What is and is not stored

EASE does not write raw nearby-search or Check In latitude and longitude to its application database. For a successful Check In, the database can retain a record linked to your account and venue with a request identifier, time, rounded accuracy, a coarse distance band, verification outcome, and reason. These details support a Verified Visit for up to 30 days and are then removed through scheduled cleanup. Account deletion removes linked details sooner.

A review’s simple historical Verified Visit label may remain when the review itself remains. EASE never builds a history of where you’ve been and does not continuously monitor your device.

4. Your choices

  • Decline or revoke location access in your device’s operating-system settings.
  • Use a place name or city for search without nearby location.
  • Submit a review without Check In; it will not be marked as a Verified Visit.
  • Choose Search anywhere to clear the nearby search center.

Removing EASE from your device does not delete your account. See Delete Account for account deletion details.

5. Service providers

For a nearby search, Google Places receives the search text and approximate location center needed to return results. The EASE API processes a Check In fix for the one-time venue comparison. Google and infrastructure providers may process technical or operational data under their own policies and service settings.

Read the Privacy Policy for the broader data practices, including service providers, retention, and your privacy choices. Google’s notices are available in its Privacy Policy and Maps Platform Terms.
